Welcome to our Newsletter
by Erin Henning
Welcome, welcome, welcome.
I'm proud to anounce our new documentary Love Life: The Tale of Steve Fugate.
This newsletter will provide updates on the progress of our production, including: new video from the road; the times and places of screenings; and, ultimately, how to purchase a DVD.
Most of you already know Steve Fugate and have heard his story. For those who have not, for now you need to hear it from Steve. Check out his website: www.trailtherapy.org. Any comments or questions you have for Steve should be directed there. Love Life Film is a seperate entity, and any emails you send to us will not necessarily be seen by Steve.
I first met Steve Fugate over the phone, back in March of this year. I casually wrote him an email declaring my interest in making a documentary about his life. To my surprise, he called an hour later, his voice pitched with excitement.
"When do we begin?" he asked. "What do we do next?"
I admit to being a tad under-prepared for his quick response. Documentaries are huge undertakings, demanding years of time, generous funding, and an incredible determination to see them through. At this point, the idea was barely a day old.
We spoke for nearly three hours. My wifeMeredithpaced the living room. He talked of the loss of his children, of his outlook on life, of the people he has met on the road, of hiking, backpacking, and Florida. Steve’s openness and enthusiasm were ever-present. Here is a man, I thought, who has experienced some of the worst losses anyone can experience, but has refused to give up, to give in to his pain. He chose instead to work though his grief in a public setting, to smile in the face of his anguish, to campaign for a positive outlook.
Filming has now begun. On April 23rd we met Steve seven miles outside of Bridgeport, CA. There, we filmed for two days, to get a feel for him on camera, and to hear him tell his story first hand. Some of that footage may be viewed at www.lovelifefilm.com.

Steve is a many faceted individual. In a passing glance it may be easy to mischaracterize him. It may be simple to allow your own bias or agenda to color your judgment.
I hope that our film will make clear the man beneath the sign.
Until next time,
Erin Henning (Director)
